Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Riaz Ali, P.Eng. LSSMBB, is currently a Reliability Engineer at Baffinland Iron Mines, where he is responsible for the reliability of the shiploader, power generation and ore crushing systems at one of the world’s most northern mining operations.

A Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Riaz has spent his career applying continuous improvement, DMAIC and Reliability-Centered Maintenance across the Canadian energy sector, including roles at Canadian Natural Resources Limited, ARC Resources, TC Energy, ConocoPhillips Canada and Bantrel (Bechtel). He is an Engineering graduate from the University of Calgary.

Riaz’s work bridges the statistical rigour of Six Sigma with the practical realities of operating facilities primarily in the Oil and Gas sector. Since 2019 he has also been a part-time instructor in Lean Six Sigma and Statistics at the University of Calgary’s Continuing Education program, and he has delivered Lean and Six Sigma training to public-sector and industry audiences across Canada.

His SAGA Wisdom course, Lean Six Sigma for Oil & Gas, distills that experience into an eight-module program built around real client case studies, from SAGD and BS&W optimization to turbidity control, a DOE-driven filter study and a 5S spool-yard transformation, so that energy professionals can apply the toolkit to problems they actually face.
