Jonathan’s first-class degree in geophysics and master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering were a prelude to six years with BP as a petroleum engineer. Jonathan left BP and, following a short spell at Camco, jointly founded ICE Energy. After six years of completions and petroleum engineering consultancy and technical training, ICE Energy merged with TRACS International, where he continued with engineering studies, failure investigations, leading integrated teams, and developing and delivering training courses.

Jonathan now works independently and uses his thirty years of completions-related experience to provide impartial advice and expertise to oil and gas companies, service companies, potential investors, and legal firms.

Technical skills include:

  • Tubing and casing design. Technical expert, including supervising equations and workflows for Oliasoft casing and tubing stress analysis, APB, wellhead growth etc. Numerous design and failure studies and reviews of complex issues.
  • Well performance and artificial lift, material selection, smart completions, HPHT, stimulation (acid and proppant fracturing) and sand control.
  • SPE Technical Interest Group chairman on Completions and Well Interventions.
  • Author of “Well Completion Design” book published by Elsevier. Over 20,000 copies sold.
  • Teaching of technical training courses (over 300 run in 40+ countries).
