Drilling Fundamentals: Well Delivery, Systems & Operations Course

Drilling Fundamentals: Well Delivery, Systems & Operations provides a practical introduction to how wells are planned, delivered, and physically constructed as part of an integrated drilling system. The course begins with the well-factory concept, introducing flow, takt time, cycle time, variability, work in process, and continuous improvement. It then places drilling within the broader well-delivery lifecycle before developing the major rig systems, rig-selection principles, operational states and transitions, drilling hydraulics, ECD and pressure behavior, directional drilling, MWD/LWD, managed pressure drilling, and fundamental well-control concepts.

Designed for early-career drilling, petroleum, and well engineers, as well as technical professionals who need a stronger understanding of drilling operations, the course emphasizes how people, equipment, subsurface conditions, hydraulics, data, and operational decisions interact. Participants will leave with a structured understanding of how a drilling rig works, how wells progress through different operating states, how pressure and trajectory are managed, and how individual engineering decisions contribute to safe, efficient, and predictable well delivery.
