Jan Poetsch is the Founder and CEO of Arder Energy, where he works with Canadian industry to develop and implement electricity strategies that enhance competitiveness and economic resilience. The firm also provides bespoke LNG advisory services focused on financial investors and gas suppliers.

Prior to founding Arder, Jan served as Executive Vice President and VP Commercial at PetroChina Canada (PCC), overseeing the company’s Commercial, Marketing, IT, and Supply Chain functions. In this role, he focused primarily on setting up PCC’s commercial value chain for its 15% interest in the LNG Canada venture and served on the LNG Canada Executive Committee. Jan began his career as a Risk Engineer with Shell in London and The Hague, later completing a secondment to the Sakhalin 2 project in Far East Russia as Contract Manager. After moving to Canada, he provided M&A deal support before serving as Commercial Deal Lead for the LNG Canada Project.

Jan holds a Master of Science in Finance from Texas A&M and a Graduate Industrial Engineering degree from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He holds CPA and CMA (Canada) as well as ACMA and CGMA (UK) accounting qualifications, alongside the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.
