Brent Thomas has over 25 years of experience in world-wide oil and gas development. He has worked on projects concerning heavy oil, conventional and volatile crude oil, retrograde dew point systems and wet and dry gas. He has experience with all types of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) including thermal (steam and in situ combustion) and chemical (alkaline, surfactant and polymer flooding). Brent has worked extensively with gas injection projects ranging from carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen and hydrocarbon gases. Dr. Thomas has authored/co-authored close to 100 publications on a variety of EOR subjects for many varied clients during his 27-year career with Hycal Energy Research. Brent was a principal and held the position of Senior Vice President with Hycal before it was purchased by Weatherford International in 2004. Since then he has served as director of phase behavior and EOR research with the same company. He is recognized as an expert worldwide in EOR. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Calgary and a Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis, all in Chemical Engineering. He continues to teach courses and consult world-wide on reservoir engineering themes as he has for the last 17 years, including one year as a distinguished lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in 2003-2004. Dr. Thomas is a member of the SPE and is a registered member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta. He offers a broad knowledge of reservoir processes and reservoir optimization and has helped numerous multinational companies develop new skills while providing unparalleled expertise as a consultant.
