Nodal Analysis Exercises

This course teaches practical nodal analysis workflows for optimizing oil and gas well performance using real production data. Through hands-on exercises, learners will calculate bottomhole pressures, build IPR/VLP models, diagnose liquid loading, and evaluate artificial lift performance. The course emphasizes fast, actionable analysis—helping engineers test changes, identify opportunities, and improve production using data-driven decisions in real time. This 3 hour course using whitson+ engineering software will cover everything needed to quickly perform production engineering on both gas and oil wells. No previous experience is needed.

We’ll cover the following exercises:

• Automating daily BHPs. Includes free flow, plunger, rod pump, ESP, downhole chokes, and gas lift.
• Calibrating BHPs to measured bottom hole gauge pressures.
• Which gas lift valve is open, through history?
• Is the well liquid loaded?
• A report card of liquid loading on all your wells.
• What’s the current reservoir pressure (without a shut in)?
• IPR/VLPs
• What happens if I change the tubing size, flow path, choke, or surface pressure?
• How much pressure am I losing along the lateral?
• What’s the ideal gas lift rate for my well? Am I over/under injecting?
• With a limited gas lift supply, how do I best distribute it to many wells for the highest combined production rate?
